Sterilizer Manufacturer:
Pelton & Crane
Model of Sterilizer:
OCM
Problem Title:
Pelton & Crane OCM- Autoclave smells
Problem Description:
This autoclave has a distinct odor when it is running--sort of a hot smell. The pressure and the temp are within acceptable range and it passes the spore test. Recently someone overfilled the tank and the unit smelled like wet dishtowels when it was vented. I cleaned the unit; hot smell still there and some remnant of dishtowel smell. Is unit ok to operate, or do we need to have it serviced?

Solutions

1. It could be that part of the spill-over wet the insulation and that may take a couple of days but the odor should go away. If you have been running it since the incident, it should be fine to continue using although I would remove the cover if you have not already done so and inspect it for anything that does not look right. Just be sure to unplug it first.
