Sterilizer Manufacturer:
Pelton & Crane
Model of Sterilizer:
Validator 10
Problem Title:
Pelton Crane Validator 10- door seal
Problem Description:
I 'd like to ask for your impressions regarding the progressively worsening failure of the door seal on my Validator 10 autoclave. As you know, I replaced the seal gasket a few months ago (for the first time since aquisition about 16 years ago). That seemed to fix the problem, but now the seal is failing again after just a few months. We run the unit, and find water all over the counter. Pressure never builds, so the run fails.
Here is what we know does work, and it's why we can still do surgery here: As the temp rises to 100 degrees, we actually lean on the door until kPa rises to 2 or 3, and once there is back-pressure, the seal is good, and the run finishes. This is getting harder and harder to do.
Is there a maintenance procedure that would snug the door closer to the chamber by a millimeter or so? It sure seems like a slightly thicker gasket would do the trick. There is nothing else failing besides the seal, and if there is something I can do short of replacing the unit, I'd sure like to give it a try, especially if you've encountered this before. Thanks for your help. Is there indeed a thicker seal that I can purchase?
