Sterilizer Manufacturer:
Pelton & Crane
Model of Sterilizer:
Magnaclave
Problem Title:
Pelton and Crane Magnaclave wiring installation
Problem Description:
I just purchased a magnaclave and it came with a cut cord. My electrician said if we run a 4-wire 220 line (2 power, 1 common, 1 ground) to the machine (it has 3 wires-2 power and a ground to itself) and connect the common and ground of the feed to the ground on the autoclave that in the event we have a short we could get electricuted because the autoclave will be hot. So the question is how to wire a 4-wire 220 line to the 3-wire autoclave?

Solutions

1. On the back panel or on the back of the chamber, there should be a name plate that tells you the voltage that it is designed to run at.

It will either be 208 volts (208 - 230) or 240 volts.

In either case, it is single phase, meaning that you need three wires minimum. (two hot and one nuetral) It can be connected with only three wires but the best option is to also have a 4th wire as a seperate or isolated ground and may be required by local codes.

Hope this helps.
